Frequently Asked Questions

  • You do not! Many of the Florida springs are open water basins, with no overhead environment, and suitable for new divers or others who do not wish to enter the cavern. In addition, open water divers are welcome at certain sites widely considered safe for divers without cave training/equipment. These “open water friendly” caverns include Ginnie Ballroom, Devil’s Den, Blue Grotto, and Paradise Spring (AOW required).

    Cavern/cave certified? We also offer guided cavern dives at certain sites restricted to certified cavern/cave divers only. These dives are conducted using full cavern protocol (lines, rule of thirds, etc).

  • Our guided dives include up to two dives at the same site. All guided dives are private, and one-on-one. Guide fees do not include gas fills/tanks, rental gear, or site admission/entry fees.

    Additional same-day dives or long distance sites may be available for an additional rate. 

  • We will ask you at time of booking for any rental/gear needs. We have limited complimentary rental gear available; we will let you know at time of booking if this is available to you. If you need additional rental gear, we are happy to arrange that for you through our local shop, Extreme Exposure. All rental gear fees can be paid to the shop directly at time of pick-up.

  • We typically meet in the morning at Extreme Exposure in High Springs, Florida. Extreme Exposure is a local cave diving shop; they carry recreational and technical gear for rent/purchase, and tank fills (air, nitrox). We will sort out any equipment needs and brief on the day’s dive plan, before driving to the dive site. Please plan to provide your own transportation to/from the shop and dive site.

    If you are driving in from out of town, we may plan to meet up directly at the dive site (depending on distance/site).

  • Be sure to bring your cert card(s) and any personal dive gear/equipment you plan to use. If you need rental gear, we are happy to arrange that - please let us know at time of booking.

    On the day of the dive, please wear a swimsuit and bring a towel/change of clothes for after the dive. We will have complimentary bottled water/Gatorade and light snacks available. However, we highly recommend bringing additional water and any snacks/lunch you might want - it can be a long day, especially in the summer heat.

    Please bring cash/cards to pay for dive site entry fees, and any additional rental gear. If you need transportation, we are happy to point you towards local rental car or ridesharing options.

  • The Florida springs are 72 degrees year-round; this can feel warm in winter, but quite cool in summer. We recommend (and can provide rental) thicker 5mm wetsuits to help you stay warm. If you are used to diving in saltwater, you will need less weight in the freshwater springs - but this may be (partially) offset by the thicker wetsuit. We are happy to work with you on proper weighting!
